Monday January 21st
I got to meet one of the newbies today: Nicky Boterill (16).
She is from Australia and is stayig in Bregenz from now until next January. At
least 3 other ones came as well that I haven’t met yet. Michael Ballard is from
New Zealand (17) and is staying in Lauterach. Half way through the year Nicky
and Michael will swap host families (similarly to Mark and Emily). I know a
girl from South America (Venezuala I think) is coming to Bludenz and another
girl will be staying in Egg. Anyway, I took a couple hours from my morning
classes to go meet with Mark and Nicky for lunch and to show Nicky the area. It
turned out she was going to meet us at 1 so after meetin in Dornbirn Mark and I
took a spontaneous train to Lindau, DE. We spent a little while walking around
there and checking out the deserted winter streets. Mark got a fish sandwich.
We took the train back to Bregenz to meet with Nicky. She didn’t know Bregenz
very well, but we managed to find each other. She is from Melbourne, which I
would assume is unbearably hot this time of year, so the cold was a change.
Although, suprisingly, she skis. We went and got a Döner for lunch and Emily
came to join us. We showed Nicky the Bregenzer Festspielhaus, the Bahnhof and
the main streets in Bregenz. Then we took the bus through Lauterach, Wolfurt,
and Schwarzach to get to Dornbirn. We showed her the market square, the church,
Stadtmarkt, and a couple little shopping streets. Also the Mohren Brewery, the
Bahnhof and Messepark. We spent some time browsing around in MediaMarkt and
H&M before taking the bus to Schoren and the train back to our respective
houses.
