Sunday January 13th
As our last day in Innsbruck we made a simple breakfast and
packed up all our stuff. Juliets host dad helped build a meusm (Bergisel)in
Innsbruck so we visited it free of charge before heading to the Bahnhof. The
museum overlooked the city with a great view. Upon entering we got little touch
screen tour guiders with ear pieces. We would type in a number (that we would
see on a wall or the floor) and it would give us information on that part of
the museum. The main exhibit was a panorama painting of the local Tyrolians
fighting off a Bavarian invasion during in the early 19th century I
believe. I was huge, about 20 feet tall and all the way around the room.
Apparently they moved the painting to this site by helicopter and now it is on
display. The guided tour told us who important people were, what was happening
ar the time of the battle and all sorts of interesting facts about the battle.
Connected to the Bergisel museum was the Kaiserjägger museum (translates to
King Hunter, but it means something else). There were 6 floors of Tyrolian
kings, important generals and soldiers, old flags, classic muskets and
paintings. At the top was a fancy touch screen information center with a large
rotating wheel. We took a group photo outside at a Gazebo then drove to the Bahnhof.
Our train came at 4 and we headed home. It was a great weekend, Innsbruck is
like a smaller Vienna (120,000 people) in the mountains. I could easily see
myself living there.

Innsbruck was my favorite place in Europe, when I went the first time.
