The House on Bödele

Saturday February 2nd
We gathered up our luggage and food early this morning and loaded it up to drive to Bödele. We had to take both cars to carry everything, and on the way up we stopped at the Jutson house to pick up their dog Max. The Jutsons (not sure on spelling) are close friends of the Hladiks and have a similar relationship as my family does with the Clicks in America. It was already heavily snowing when we got up there and we parked the car in an overnight parking lot. Marko, with his hurt collar bone, proceeded to walk with Max up to the house, while Morti, Martina and I skied. A man came and picked up our luggage with a Skidoo and took it up for us (which was a nice touch). After about an hour of skiing Morti and I went to the house to help unpack. We brought in all the stuff through the blizzard and as people arrived we got settled in. The Jutson family consists of the mother Angelika, father Bruno, older daughter Johanna, and younger daughter Francisca. They stayed with us in the house for the whole break. The property Family Hladik owns extends a lot further than I thought. There is the main house, but they also own all of the land around the house and the ski slopes themselves. Though they don’t own the lift, they own the ground that you ski on for this part of Bödele (about 1/3 of the resort). There is the large main house, the secondary but still large house, the barn, a small cabella (church), another couple barns that they rent out and a restaurant down the way. After I brought my luggage up to the room I was sharing with Morti I went down to eat a snack and begin cooking dinner. As a pre-birthday gift they gave me a pair of wooden Austrian house shoes (which are typical for the Bregenzerwald) to wear around the century old house. The oldest part of the main house was built somewhere around 1740 I think. So I was staying in a house older than my country. We had a lavish dinner and they sang typical Austrian Apreski songs before bed.

The snow level was pretty high
